Domain Prep and Forest Prep

Sayed

Hi,

I ran the Domain Prep and Forest Prep on my Windows 2000
domain controller in preparation for upgrading my Exchange
from 5.5 to 2003. The programs ran OK but I only see the
extra Exchange tabs in user objects when I run the AD
users and computers from that same domain controller, I
don't see the extra tabs on any other dc's or any other
computer. The replication is OK, there are no error
messages and it's been two days now. Any idea what's
causing this. Your response is appreciated. Thanks

You need to install Exchange Admin tool on your machine to see Exchange
properties.

Sorry, I think my post wasn't very clear. What I meant to
say is that I don't see the extra "Exchange" tabs in the
user objects when I look at a user in AD users and
Computers.

Go with what Santhosh said.

You have to install the exchange admin tools on any computer running
the windows server admin tools before any tabs will show up in the AD
Users and Computers or anywhere else for that matter.

In order to see the Exchange specific tabs on other controllers /
admin workstations you need to install the Exchange System Management
Tools from the Exchange CD on each system. You should then be able to
see those additional tabs.

I might jump in here as well.

Sayed, you will need to drop in the Exchange 2000 Server CD and do a custom
installation. All you are going to select is the Exchange Server Management
tool. Have no worries, you will not be installing Exchange Server 2000 on
your DC! It will take a but a moment to do. I would then suggest that you
install the Exchange Service Pack on that DC ( if you are at Exchange 2000
SP3 then install SP3! if you are at Exchange 2000 SP2 then install SP2 ).
This, too, will take a but a moment.

Once you do this - and only after you do this - will you see those
Exchange-related tabs. Do this on all of your DCs and update the shortcut
that you might have on your desktop to the ADUC.

Since I am here, I might also take this opportunity to suggest to you that
you install the WIN2000 Support Tools. You can do this by downloading the
Support Tools from the MS web site ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads ) or
going to the Support | Tools folder on either the WIN2000 Server CD or the
WIN2000 Service Pack CD. I would opt for the Service Pack CD or download.

The Support Tools give you a whole slew of extremely useful diagnostic tools
( dcdaig, netdiag, repadmin, replmon, netdom and nltest are just a few! )
that *should* be a part of every Admins toolbox.

HTH,

Cary
