I work in a school. We have just bought a new XP laptop
and we cannot get the majority of the users to log on to
the domain, only users that have an account set-up can do
this.

Local users have been set-up to work locally, but there
could be upto 1000 users of the XP laptop and I do not
want to set-up 1000 users. Is there a way around this?

We have no problem doing this in Windows 2000.

Thanks.

If you don't need to use policies, then just set up the machine as a
workgroup. You will still be able to access the network.

Have you actually joined the laptop to the Domain ?
If not then only local users will be able to logon.
Once the laptop is a Domain member it will be able to authenticate all users
who have accounts in the Domain.
