Domain login time out

I have XP Pro machines that I will be sending out to
remote sites. They are set to come up to the 3 tier login.
The user enters his username/password/domain name and hits
enter. The PC's are able to connect to RAS, but time out
before they find the domain controller. Is there a way to
increase the search time?
