Changing the cached credentials password without domain access

My employer recently closed their office in my city and offered me the
possibility to work remotely, instead of relocating to the remaining
office in the next state. I use a laptop running Windows XP Pro for my
work.

I am logged in to my laptop using cached credentials from when I last
was in the office (1-2 months ago). My company does not have a VPN
service to login to the domain remotely.

About a week ago I used Citrix (through a web browser interface) to
log on a server on my company's domain. Upon login the server popped
up a message stating that my password was about to expire and asking
if I wanted to change it. I did not change it but a few days later my
password expired and I was no longer able to access my email inbox (we
use MS Exchange Server).

I got the password reset through my manager but that did not affect my
laptop login (as I am not connected to the company domain). As a end
result I now have two passwords: one to login to the laptop and
another one for Outlook.

I wanted to find a way to synchronise the two passwords, but following
the "Change Password..." option in the "Windows Security" dialog only
leads to the "cannot change password as domain is not available"
message.

Also an article from Microsoft states that:
There are no tools or utilities from Microsoft to update cached
credentials. This is by design. Only cached validated domain logons
are stored as cached credentials.
URL: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818088&Product=win2000

So is there no way to manually change my laptop cached credentials
password? Or can this only be accomplished by taking a plane to the
company HQ or asking them to install a VPN service?

Thanks for any advice.

You must VPN into the corporate network or plug in to the office so that you
are authenticating against the domain to change your cached credentials
