domain controllers

Hi Everyone:
We have 4 domain controllers in our active domain and the first computer we
setup as the first domain controller was some time ago and needs to be
replaced or removed from service. All computers are running server 2003. Is
there a specific way to take the first domain controller out of service?

Unless you care where the FSMO roles wind up, just running DCPROMO on the
domain controller will do everything you need to do. I would recommend
seeing where the FSMO roles are and moving them in a controlled manner prior
to demoting the DC:

You may also need to make sure that a Global Catalog is available on another
server as well:
