Domain controllers with significat hardware differences

Steve Martin

Hi,

I have a new server with win 2000 server, Single 3G xeon,
1G of ram, SCSI, 1G nic. Primarilly this is a domain
controller for my web server environemnt. I will have 14
servers logged on the domain.

Is this server powerfull enough?

I have a second domain controller win 2000 server. Single
600 mghz processor, 512 ram, IDE, 10/100 nic. Small old
server. It's their just for redundancy in case the other
one fails.

With these two DC with different hardware configurations,
and diferent **network speed**, do you forsee I will have
issues?

If yes what should I expect.

The perfect answer is to get a new DC like the other one
but I can't do that.

You mentioned that the domain contriller will be used for
14 web servers. You failed to mention which i am
assuming the web servers will be using this domain
controller to authenticate a large number of users how
many aproximatly?

The users:

Now just a few services for the server software, folder
shares, etc.

Real people: about tow to three through terminal services.

Maybe exchanges will serve pop accounts for 50 users next
year.
