Domain Controller / Active Directory Problems

Suffice it to say that I am not a Windows 2000 server expert and when we got
out Windows 2000 server I was the person assigned to getting it setup for us
to use for our small office. Intiailly we all setup our networking
connecting to the server via a workgroup. Later, after I had done some
reading I thought I should make it a domain controller and use Active
Directory. Now, I really don't know why I did that and I am thinking that I
probably should not have...

Anyway, I changed my personal desktop (running Windows XP) to logon using
the domain. I noticed some problems and so everyone else is still using the
workgroup but I am still using the domain as I don't want to have to reset up
my user again to make the switch back.

I am wondering if the problems I am having can be fixed. One problem I
commonly have, but no one else in the office seems to is that I get the
following error intermittently when I attempt to connect to a shared drive on
our server.

An error occured while reconnecting X: to \\server\sharea

Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.

The connection has not been restored.

My apologies. I accidentally hit post before I meant to.

Additional information: I am able to connect to the shared drives find when
I boot up, but then after a random amount of time I have this problem.
Sometimes it is hours, sometimes it is days, but in order to fix it I have to
reboot again.

Any ideas what the problem could be?
