Migrating from Workgroup to Domain in Win2K Server

G

Guest

Currently, our network is setup as a Workgroup connecting two offices via a
WAN. How can I convert it into a Domain-based network for security and
reliability? I am running six Windows 2000 Servers at the primary office in
Maryland and four Windows 2003 Servers at the secondary office in Virginia.
Is active directory all that needs to be implemented for this purpose? Thank
you.

You're going to need to do a fair amount of research before you proceed.
You could simply set up a domain across both locations but you may want to
consider network performance and whether or not each site should be a child
domain with an overall parent domain administering both.

You'll find a wealth of information at the Microsoft TechNet and Microsoft
MSDN sites (http://www.microsoft.com/technet and http://msdn.microsoft.com/)
that can help you analyze your situation and decide what approach will work
best.

I would suggest a single Active Directory Domain with two Active Directory
Sites with one domain controller at each site. However, like Richard
indicated, you need to do a lot of studying,...you have to already know what
you are doing and why you are doing it before you pickup that CD.
