domain change mistake

Firstly I must apologise if this is the wrong newsgroup as i am new here but
anyway here is my problem:
So I have an old laptop running win 2k that used to be connected to a domain
network. I decided that i might aswell network this machine to my win xp pc
through a simple LAN with internet sharing. I was following a guide on the
internet on how to do this and it suggested that i should make the workgroups
of the two computers the same. Stupidly I did this on the win 2k machine
without thinking about it and it appeared to remove the user from the domain
and by doing so removed the user from the system. When I came to turn the
laptop on again it would not let me sign in with my password and the domain
box had disappeared. Has it actually removed that user from the system? Is
there anyway of logging in now because i forgot the admin password a long
time ago unfortunately. Sorry if this is a stupid query as I am not too good
with this kind of stuff.

You're going to have to take the laptop back to work, have your IT folks
re-join it to the domain, then ask for their help in using it at home.

Hi - if you no longer have access to the network where the domain lives, and
can't ask the admin to help you, you'll need to crack the local admin
password to log in. Your user account doesn't exist anymore on the computer,
but your files should still be there & you can move them wherever you wish.
If you can get in touch with whomever installed this PC in the first place,
they may be able to give you the administrator credentials.
