I am trying to install XP home (upgrade version) on a new hard drive. My old
HD died so I got a new one at walmart. I put in the xp cd and boot from cd
and all seems to go well, it downloads all the files necessary to install,
ask if I agree to the terms, then ask if I want to repair or install, I tell
it to install, then it cant find XP. What am I doing wrong?

Its an upgrade so it need to see an earlier version of win in order to
upgrade/install.
Assuming you have an earlier version cd, pop it in and point the install to
it when winxp upgrade complains.
If you no longer have the earlier version win cd, you'll either have to Ebay
for one or purchase the retail edition of Winxp
