does not detect blank dvd's

Thanks all for reading. We installed Vista, did not like it there were to
many problems. One being we could no longer burn dvd because even with a
blank cd in the drive it said it was full. I removed Vista, reformatted the
computer, reinstalled everything and I am still having the same issue. I have
an lg cd/dvd combo drive. I have flashed the firmware, I have tried other
blank dvd's, I have even swapped the dvd drive for another one.

If I put a blank cd in the drive it recongizes it and allows us to burn to
it. I have insured the dma was an option.

It is a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC4480b drive. I have installed Power DVD and it
will now let us watch dvd's again. I have searched for a driver but cannot
find one. It is showing that it is the generic driver from Microsoft
5.1.2535.0.

Any help would be great
Thanks

The reason that your LG GCC-4480B combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM doesn't
recognize blank DVDs is that the drive is NOT capable of writing to DVDs as
it is a "Read Only Memory" device.

Windows XP has no built in ability to burn dvd's. You need third party
software for dvd burning.

Merlin, your post has absolutely no bearing on the OPs problem since the
DVD-ROM device can burn DVDs anyhow.
