Does computer run any scheduled and other tasks in sleep mode?

Just wondering if computer 'wakes up' to run Vista background and scheduled
tasks (under DELL power settings) if it is in a 'powered down/sleep state',
or does everything clamor to run at once when the computer comes
out-of-sleep?? TIA
