Does AutoArchive Run When Outlook is Not Open?

Will AutoArchive work even if the user doesn't log into Outlook for a week or
so? I'm looking for some help in getting items permanently deleted out of
Outlook 2003's Deleted Items folder when a user is not able to log in on a
daily basis.

No. its client side so outlook needs opened.

Exchange server? Use mailbox manager to empty the deleted items (and junk)
folders regularly.

Hmm . . . I'm not in IT and work for a rather large company that has some .
.. . stringent . . . policies. I'll make some recommendations though. Are
there any details about Mailbox Manager that I should request from the
Exchange team? Or a particular setup that would best suit the scenario?

The user with a problem is a VP who likes to travel all over the place with
only his wireless device. He gets a ton of email, which he can delete, but
it still remains in his Deleted Items folder in Outlook, which counts towards
his overall mailbox size. There should be a way for him to permanently
delete messages from his device, but since he changes devices and technology
every few weeks-- it's the nature of his job to try out the latest wireless
technology-- finding the method to permanently delete on each new device is
an ongoing learning curve.

I've recommended changing his options so that the Deleted Items folder is
emptied every time he closes the application, and setting AutoArchive to
empty items in the Deleted Items folder older than one day. But if he's
traveling for several days or a week without logging in, that doesn't really
do him any good.

Besides telling him to stop getting on so many email lists, I'm at a loss! :)
