Documents Impossible to read.

Hi there!
My actual platform is XP Pro.
I am trying to read old documents written previously with "Notepad" (and
sawed in a CD) when
my platform was Windows'98, but they are now impossible to read; when I open
the documents, they result in 'code'(!)...what can I do to fix the problem?
