Ther is only two desktops( named Lynda and Jon) set up on my pc, which has
the name merlin on a home network. The desktop I use always saves settings in
my name, and this shows up in documents and settings, but the desktop my OH
uses saves his settings as Jon.MERLIN. Why? This is'nt the name that comes up
on the welcome screen, so again Why? I have run a virus scan, and used ad
aware, both show no probs.

Because - for some reason - the directory for that user was created in such
a way.
It's all a visual annoyance more than anything else. It does not affect the
use of the computer. Many users log on as "John" or "Mary" - but their
documents and settings profile directory is "owner" - because that was the
username originally entered. It's not a big deal - in other words.
