'document will not print'

E

eliot555

i am sure this topic has been previously discussed. and yet i have not
found it addressed in faqs.??

about once in 10 or 20 documents, the printer will not print. i have
to close
windows and restart the computer. upon the loading of XP, the printer
comes alive and pops out the document.

this is true of two home computers and different printers. ditto for
the laptop and printer at work. ditto for my boss' home computer and
printer.

all these units are different. all are stand alone , not networked:
one printer to one computer.

computers: dell, toshiba, hp
printers: [2] inkjet hp, laser epson, okidata 320

my two units are XP Home, SP2 with all recent updates.

any after market software that can buffer between the computer and
the
printer so when i want a printout i get a printout? very ! tired of
this recurring problem. ready for an iMac!!

thanks for any guidance eliot

Dear Eliot,

Have a look in the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS for "left
over" spool files - *delete* them all (Shift/Delete).

Open a command prompt and give the command chkdsk /f then hit
enter and answer "y" <enter> to check your system drive on the next
reboot.

Now reboot your PC.

There are other actions/options, but these two steps will "clean" up
your system drive and are basic starting point troubleshooting steps
for all Windows problems.
Now try printing a large doc.

Hope that helps.
