Document Map off by a page

In Word 2003, I have a Heading 1 paragraph on (say) page 7, with the
text "Chapter N". When I click on any paragaph on page 6, "Chapter N"
remains highlighted. Only when I click on page 5 does the preceding
Heading 1 paragraph become highlighted (text "Chapter N-1").

I'm wondering whether this is a feature of the Document Map function,
a bug in my corporate template, a corruption in my document, or a
cognitive bug between my keyboard and my chair.

What happens depends not only on the page, but where on the page you click.
The document map highlights the current heading (at any level). If you click
on, say, the top of page 6 but the new heading is close to the bottom, the
previous heading remains highlighted.

Understood. However, in the context of the previous example, the
Chapter N heading starts on page 7. All the paragraphs in page 6 are
text/bullet/table paragraphs that belong to Chapter N-1.

Hmm, this is strange. Can you reproduce it in any document, or does it affect
only one document (or documents created from a specific template)?
