Hi people, new to this so forgive me and thanks in advance for your patience. All my word (.doc) files are saving as wordpad, despite them appearing as 'word document' under save as. I have tried (a) reregistering word with windows (b) opening files using “open with†rather than clicking directly on them and (c) in control panel going to tools, folder options, file types, .doc files – and specifying word as the program that opens any .doc files.
As far as I can tell I think the key problem is that for some reason my computer is recognizing all documents with a .doc extension as a wordpad document, rather than a word document. This is what happens when I try option (C) above, and it tells me that “Files with extension 'DOC' are of type "Wordpad Document'.
I can still actually access all the word files, I just have to open up the word programme, and then open the files from there, rather than just double clicking on them in My Docs. When I do double click on them the message reads “"Word is experiencing an error trying to open this file. Try these options. Check the file permissions for the document or drive. Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.â€
I would be grateful of anyone’s assistance.
Charles.
