DOC file opening as new

M

M. Mainwaring

When retrieving an existing document somehow default
action has been changed from Opening the file with its
original file name to opening it as a new document
containing the existing document text.

I have opened the doc file by: double clicking on the file.
and
I have opened by: selecting "open" then selecting the file

either way the word.doc has opened as a new document.

It has been suggested that this is due to Word recognizing
the file as a template instead of a Word document file.

Exactly how do I change the default action to keep
from dealing with templates. Is there a preference setting
I need to set?

OR: How do I open a file and not lose its name?
