on. This is not a subject for lengthy explanations in an XP newsgroup.

off of retail shelves in less than four months. The least we can do is to
point posters to places to find Vista info but being a net nanny is not

IE7 is fine IMHO and IE8 Beta shows promise. Some find that some versions
of Dragon Naturally Speaking don't play nice with IE7 or IE8.

Knowing the headaches you've had with your WinXP machine as I do <wink>, I
would recommend getting a new machine with Vista pre-installed, not
upgrading to Vista.

system with XP installed.

I don't think he's looking to upgrade just yet... unless he's grown
tired of using System Restore to put things back together after a play

Try it. It's reversible via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.

I just may end up going back to Win98SE, if this keeps up! I still prefer
a nice and trim, lean and mean, *operating system* (and it's FAST, and is
only about 100 MB, *just as it should be*, for an *operating system*, per
se), instead of 1 GB! And - it lets you be in complete control. When I
looked for an operating system, that's what I wanted - not an "application"
(albatross). So there. (OK, OK, at least WinXP is less prone to BSODs,
I'll have to admit, and it runs current programs)

If you don't think search and networking are important then go back to your

Don't try it on any of the newer computers. They don't have mobo drivers
that support Win9x/ME.

And he'll advise against using Vista SP1 (until SP2 comes out). By Bill's
logic, SP2 will be so bad SP1 will look great. This stuff never changes.
