Do popups leave a history trail?

I'm getting a lot of popups, as usual, but some of them are from
dating services and x-rated sites. I don't go to any of these sites
or types of sites, but I do have a teenage son that uses the computer
from time to time. My concern is that these popups are going to leave
a history trail that my jealous wife is going to blame on me. Do you
have to physically click on the popup link for it to leave a link in
the History file, or does it automatically go there when it pops up?

site, then the history will report it as such.
