do not want to replace text in a paragraph

Hi, I am having trouble remembering how to correct this in Word. When I move
my cursor to a spot in a paragraph where I want to add text, what happens is
that it starts replacing what I already have typed. How do I disable this
function?

Hit the Insert key one time.

Press the Insert key (again, since that's what started this) to switch between
Overtype mode and Insert mode.
