do not print some slides

Hello --

Wondering if there is a way to "hide" slides from printing. I want to see
all slides in slide show view, but when printed, make sure that some slides
do not print. I cannot use the Range option in the print dialog, as the
presentation will be distributed, and users will not print this way. Any help
would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

How about using hide slide? You can hide slide by right clicking on specific
slide thumbnails, then select Hide Slide. As for printing, click Tools >
Options > Print tab.
Under Default print settings for this doucment, select "Use the following
print settings". Make sure the "Print Hidden Slides" is uncheck. Lastly, save
this file and distribute it. When users print the file, the "Print Hidden
Slides" would be unchecked by default. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I do want the slides to display in slide show view -- i
simply do not want them to print. If I hide the slides, won't they be hidden
when the presentation is displayed?

Yes, hidden slides will be hidden from view. In the printer dialog, you can
tell PowerPoint to print e.g. slides 1-20;24-25;30-35.

Best regards,

What currently comes into my mind is using hyperlink to specifically linking
to these hidden slides. If not, another way would be to add a white rectangle
that covers the entire slide on slides that you do not want it to be printed.
Then, add a disappear effect onto these white rectangles so that the slide
can still be seen in the slide show. Let's wait and see if others have a
better suggestion for this one.

I cannot specify page ranges in the print dialog, as I will not be the one
printing the file. Not able to pass along instructions to those who will be
printing.

Hi Patrick,

No solution will be 100%, because anything shown on the screen can be
captured and printed. However, this may be close enough.

We will pull information from the PowerPoint linking tutorial at
http://www.awesomebackgrounds.com/powerpointlinking.htm and add some twists.

So, we need to create a hypothetical show. You want slides 1-3, 8-11, and
16-20 to print., but you want all of the slides 1 - 20 to show.

It is a bit complex, so follow carefully ....

Try this on a blank show or a COPY of the original. Start by breaking the
non-printing parts out into separate shows. So now you have 3 shows ...
#1 non-printing section (old slides 4-7)
#2 non-printing section (old slides 12-15)
#3 the rest of the original show

On what was slide 3 (the last slide before the non-print section) you will
want to insert the #1 presentation.
1. Insert => Object => Create from File (browse to saved location of #1
above) => (UN-checked) Link => (checked) As Icon
2. Select the Icon and drag it off the edge of the slide
3. Right click and select custom animations
4. Add effect => Object Actions => Show ( On click)

Now repeat this on what was slide 11 for the #2 non-printing show.

This method will have a small glitch when the non-printing shows end in that
it will re-show the end of the slide from before the section was started. A
simple additional click will get you back on track.

Post back and let me know how this works for you.
