on occasion when I couldn't get the final traces of an ISPs s/w off the box.

This usually works, but without knowing the specifics I can't really be
certain.
Go to the web site of your modem and get the device drivers for your
operating system.
Follow their install procedure - you may need to run the device driver
install before you connect up the modem, read it all properly first
Connect your modem and wait for XP to do it's thing and install the device
Just in case do a reboot - ok, I'm conservative here
Plug the modem into the phone line and it should pick up an ADSL signal
(look at the lights)
Go into the modem configuration screen (this varies - read the modem's
web site) and put in your username and password as given to you.
Set up the correct vaules for authentication, encapsualtion, VPI and VCI
- you'll get these from your ISP or your ISPs web site.
Then you should be ready to go without having any changes or bad s/w
installed on your system
Simple isn't it! This is why ISPs send out their disks, it's too hard
for some people. If you're using Firefox as you say you are you know
enough already to be able to do a manual set-up
I'm sure other Wanadoo users can fill in the exact details for you.
