Excel doesn't print; FlashPlayer won't install.

A friend has this problem for the second time. I hope it's on topic.

I've googled but the hits don't address my three questions below..

She gets a message that she must install the latest version of Adobe
Flash Playe, this time it's version 11. She tries, usually after
uninstalling the previous version, but usually gets the message
"Error. Failed to register" most often with a percentage of 52%

At this point, she can print a file in Excel, but the page comes out
blank. How is Excel related to Flash Player???

Working on her computer, I did get AFPlayer to install in Firefox, but
apparently not in IE. She only has version 8 of IE. Could this be
the reason that AFPlayer doesn't install with IE???

I followed the Adobe instructions for installation problems, which led
to a webpage with two sections, the top dealing with installing for IE
and the second half dealing with Firefox. I chose the first part,
but half way through installation, it told me to close Firefox. This
seemed strange if I was installing the IE version. And when it
completed, I got a Firefox page saying AFPlayer was installed, for,
iirc it worked with Firefox (although that was the default brower.

Are three really two versions of AFPlayer that each have to be
installed???

Only 2???

Thanks a lot.

uninstall all Adobe Flash Player from the Computer,
And restart her Computer,
Then go to Adobe website on IE8,
Reinstall Flash Player....

I told her. Thanks. The only difference is restarting, but that
might be it.

Just in case this may pertain, it is a good practice to verify that your
system conforms to the minimum system requirements for the version of Flash
Player you intend to install -- Check for that before doing the installation
attempt. Time marches on but hardware and software do not necessarily
follow. There are lots of older machines out there doing just fine, but
sometimes they are not supported by finicky software developers, some of
whom may see fit to nag you to do upgrades that they don't actually support.

For example, I'm still using one very excellent and well-trained Windows
2000 Pro SP4 machine, but I recently hit the wall with Adobe Flash Player.
My current AFPlayer (version 11.0.1.152) works just fine despite the fact
that the machine does not conform to the published minimum system
requirements for version 11. AFPlayer was urging me to update to version
11.1.102.63. I tried, but the installation failed, leaving version
11.0.1.152 in place.

Seeing that I was already pushing the envelope past the allowed system
requirements and getting away with it, I decided to turn off the automatic
update notifications.

To turn off the update notifications, browse to
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.html

(if you get a script warning, do not abort the script)

Then de-select the checkbox for "Notify me when an update for Adobe Flash
Player is available."
When the script completes, close the Global Notifications Settings panel
window.

End of problem.
