Do I need third party drivers for USB Bluetooth adapter?

R

Royston Tin

Hi,

I would like to fit a USB to Bluetooth adapter on my PC so that I can
communicate with my Bluetooth enabled mobile phone.

I have seen that there are several such adapters available on the web.

Please tell me whether I will need to instal drivers from the adapter
manufacturer onto my computer before I can use the adapter.

Or, will the adapter simply plug and play with drivers already in my
operating system, WinXP SP2?

Many thanks

Rex.

As a general rule, you will need to install the drivers for Bluetooth
devices on XP. They'll be provided on the disk that ships with the adapter,
but check for updates on the vendor's website - there may be post SP2
driver updates available.

Good luck,
Dan

Hi Rex,

I just picked up a D-Link BT120 USB Bluetooth adapter, and I had to
install the software that came with the device. After I installed
the software, I then plugged in the device. Windows proceeded to
install some files.

I then paired my Motorola V600 with the laptop no problem. The
software automatically created a Bluetooth DUN and all I had to do
was put the link code into the phone number field on the properties
window of the DUN and it worked perfectly.

I probably won't use it very often since I have T-Mobile unlimited
Internet and a Sierra 750 Pc-Card modem. There are 2 cities that I
travel to every three months on business where there is no T-Mobile,
but there is AT&T so it will be useful.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph
