Do I have a Virus?

B

BudMan

I have checked my system with Norton and the on line virus checker at PC
Pitstop neither has found a thing. But I keep getting these kind of
messages in my inbox:
This is an automated Notification e-mail message from GWAVA system at
Harrisburg Area Community College.

The message you sent, from the address (e-mail address removed)

to (e-mail address removed)

Concerning: Mail Delivery (failure (e-mail address removed))

Was not delivered because it contained an attachment not accepted by the
e-mail system in use at the intended recipient's organization. Do not reply
to this message.

This is quite common now, due to the way some internet worms confuse
the actual sender. All it means is that your email addy is in the
address book of a infested victim.

BTW, I live near Harrisburg. Do you?

It says that the .scr was removed before it was delivered to you.
Your ISP sounds like it is doing a good job protecting you.

Is this your address or not.
If it is not and you did not send any, then it is not your problem.

Close...Fairview, Twp.

Close is right. I live in Newberry Twp. Used to live in Fairview near
Lewisberry. Been haunting the virus newsgroups for years, and this is
the first time a poster has been this close to home that I know of.

Do you happen to use Epix DSL service?

If they are all from the GWAVA system at Harrisburg Area Community
College, you might complain to their computer departement. They have an
auto-reply working that assumes that the 'From:' gives the valid source.
That is an incorrect assumption today, many e-mail malware forge the
return address.

I live close to New Cumberland. Right now, I have Comcast. But for years I
had Epix dial up. I was one of the first to get their dial up service way
back. I remember their first 'set up' disc. It had Mosaic, ARCHIE,
VERONICA and WhoIs on it. That was running on my first homebuilt Intel
486Sx. That computer cost me near $2K before the monitor. We have come a
long way since then.

I'm off Limekiln Road. I know where Sunset Drive is. One of my training
routes ( I used to bike race) was up Pleasantview Drive. I passed or was on
Sunset Drive. The route then went down Old York Road.

Thanks, most of the junk is coming from HACC but other email addresses are
popping up too. Today alone I have had 20+ of those type messages. I was
beginning to think I had a virus, or was experiencing some kind of a
distributed DOS attack.

Limekiln to Pleasant View? That's quite a climb. <g> Heh, I left the
area in 1990 for upstate New York.

Oh well, back to business...
