Does anyone know what the cause and resolution for this is?

Thanks,
Scott

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DnsApi
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11165
Date: 9/13/2003
Time: 7:53:57 PM
User: N/A
Computer: STOSTI02
Description:
The system failed to register host (A) resource records
(RRs) for network adapter
with settings:

Adapter Name : {59E80ACA-37E2-409B-9EE5-708FF4844F40}
Host Name : stosti02
Primary Domain Suffix : ecopy
DNS server list :
10.10.10.206, 10.10.10.205
Sent update to server : <?>
IP Address(es) :
10.10.10.100

The reason the system could not register these RRs was
because the DNS server contacted refused the update
request. The reasons for this might be (a) you are not
allowed to update the specified DNS domain name, or (b)
because the DNS server authoritative for this name does
not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.

To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the
specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this
adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems
administrator.

The reason for this error is your Primary DNS Suffix is a single label name,
which causes numerous issues with regstration and with DNS. Should be in the
form of ecopy.com instead of just "ecopy".

Read this for more info:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=11165&source=

And how to force DNS to accept it:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300684

But this probably will not work with XP clients. Advisable to plan on
changing the name. For further assistance and suggestions specifically based
on your scenario, can you provide us with:

1. [unedited] ipconfig /all
2. DNS zone name and if updates allowed
3. AD DNS Domain name (as it shows up in your ADUC)

Thanks and looking forward to help you out on this.

First, make sure that the DNS server this machine points to has the AD DNS zone configured and this zone is set to allow dynamic updates. Make sure that
this is the ONLY dns server it points to.

Next, since this appears to be a single label domain name, please refer to "300684 Information About Configuring Windows 2000 for Domains With Single-
Label http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300684" for additional information about how to properly configure single level domains.

Thank you,
