DNS server and DHCP server

Matt

I want to make sure I understand the concepts of DNS and DHCP.

When we query a URL in web browser, http://www.yahoo.com, the web browser
will connect to DNS server in our local ISP provider to get an IP address of
http://www.yahoo.com.

For DHCP server, it assigns a dynamic IP address to the machine. It is also
from our local ISP provider?

please advise. thanks!!

Assuming that you have a regular peer to peer Network.
DHCP is the Local server on you system (usually it is part of the Cable/DSL
Router) that It can assign automatically IPs to the LAN's Computers (the
192.168.x.x type), it has nothing to do with your ISP.
DNS Server resolves Internet addresses. I.e. when you type into the I.E.
Microsoft.com you ISP DNS server tell the system to go to
http://207.46.250.222/ Your ISP usually provides your connection with DNS
Server.
Your ISP might assign you Dynamic or static IP to your home Internet
connection, what the ISP use for the assignment is up to them it is not part
of your DHCP or their DNS.
