Hi all

I have a client PC, that is experiencing a DNS Name resolution Delay. The
person can type www.cnn.com and it fails the forst 3 times, and then about
10 seconds later it works fine.

He is using all the corporate DNS Settings that are sent out via DHCP, and
no other machines in the company are having the same problem. This seems to
be a problem with his workstation

Any Ideas?

Make sure the machine is getting the gateway from the DHCP I have 2 machines
that refuse to pickup the gateway when their IP lease expires.

I noticed one of my machines did this just this morning. A user was having problems with their machine and when I checked the IP configuration, it had a lease with an IP and the DNS server IP's, but no gateway... Anyone have any advice on what would cause that

Thank

Hi Kim - Check out Jlmc's suggestion, but if that's not the problem, the
fact that it does finally work after a delay suggests to me that you may be
seeing a timeout delay from stored DNS failures in the cache. Here's a link
to some info and some reg fixes and undo's for this.
http://home.covad.net/~zeiler07/Reg/DisableDNSCaching.html You might want
to try this in a logon script for each client, for example. I've used this,
and it's quite safe AFAIK, but there's also an Undo file there available for
download also. Here's some more info about the problem:

See if this helps.
