DNS lost

Hi,

I am having trouble with my win2k clients in a win2k server domain
using a draytek vigor2300 router for DSL internet connection.
I am using static ips for the clients 192.168.1.2.....-200
The pdc uses 192.168.1.1
the router uses 192.168.1.254

To get everything working first, I had to configure the client IP
settings like this:
Standard Gateway 192.168.1.254
1st DNS: 192.168.1.254 (the router --> if not put this IP at first
place, I can't connect to the internet!!??)
2nd DNS: 192.168.1.1 (the pdc --> if not put this at second place
it takes minutes untill the domain user is able to connect himself to
the domain on logon!!??)
3rd DNS: any public DNS like 195.20.224.234

First it all seemed to work perfectly, but now I seem to loose my dns
on my clients without any reason. Sometimes I stay connected to the
internet for hours, sometimes I loose internet several times a day.
Always beeing able to ping but not to open web pages with URLs.
Sometimes if i search in google i get all the resultpages, but
clicking on the links of the result pages, I always get the standard
message that the dns or server is not available or found....

has anybody an idea what could be the problem or how to fix that kind
of problem?
Is there anything I can do in the dns configuration?
desperatly for helping hints. Thanks a lot in advance

Never use any other DNS server except the AD/DNS. Do not use the ISP's DNS
or the Internet NAT Device as a DNS.

Add the ISP's DNS as a forwarder in the forwarders list in the AD/DNS
Configuration.

Ignore the Internet NAT Device as any kind of DNS at all.

Thanks, but if I don't put the router's IP at second place in DNS
setup, I can't get any connection to the internet! Is there anything
else I have to change? Anything to do in the DNS Servers forward or
reverse lookup zones?
I can't configure DNS forwarding, it is inactive because my server
seems to be a "main server". Have I done something wrong?

Thanks in advance

Great! It seems that I found the problem:
There was a Standard forward lookup zone installed originally when
installing the DNS/AC. This zone (".") needed to be deleted.
Then I was able to configure DNS Forwarding to my router and several
public DNS.
Now I need only the standard gateway and the pdc ip address as the
first dns in my clients ip-configurations and all seems to work
perfectly.

Thanks again for your hint
