In order to get internet access via my ethernet card
connected to my cable modem, I have to start DNS and DHCP
services manually after I boot up the PC. I know this
isn't normal. How do I automate the start of these
services upon boot up? This is a Win XP Media Center 2004
PC.

Start/Run, type in services.msc, hit enter

Find "DHCP Client" and "DNS Client" in the list. Right-click, select
properties and set startup type to Automatic.

I wonder how it got set to manual?

Here's the kicker. The startup type for both is set to
automatic, but the services still fail to start. I have
to start manually in spite of the fact that startup type
is automatic. Weird.

I checked the event viewer, and I don't see anything
unusual to indicate what is causing this problem. Thanks
for the idea, though.
