How do I check if my Hard drives and CD/DVD drives are using DMA,UDMA or PIO
and how do I make a change.
There is no "Advanced" tab in Device manager/IDE ATA.ATAPI
controllers/Primary (or secondary) IDE channel/ Properties.
The solution given in the literature is valid only when an "Advanced" tab is
present in "Properties"

I am using WindowsXP Home SP2.

You will not see the Advanced Settings section if your hardware does not
support it

Thank you. But I know that my IDE ATA/ATAPI controller in the motherboard
the hard disks and the CD/DVD disks support the DMA... settings.
All I want to know is how to check and change them.

If you are using an Intel Motherboard and have installed the Intel
Application Accelerator, then the advanced tab will be unavailable. You
will have to go to Start>All Programs and run Intel Application Accelerator
to see the status of your drive.

In that case you will be using some other makers drivers (check
Properties - Driver of the master item in Dev Man and see who Provider
is). Quite possibly VIA (4 in 1 drivers) or Intel (Application
Accelerator). Those will assume that if the device reports as a UDMA
one then that is what is wanted.
