DMA changing

I recently got my PC back from the shop & found that things were very
slow. I eventually found out that DBA had been turned off. I was under
the impression that in XP it was turned on my default so it was quite a
while before I found out the problem.

Do changes to settings like DMA get logged anywhere & if so where would
I find this? When I went to change the setting under primary IDE
channel & went to check I found that this box is divided into 2 parts
device 0 & device 1. What is PI0 mode? Should both boxes show DMA if
available?
