DMA Basic, Resource Not Listed in IDE Channel

R

Ronald Graziano

As the subject states, DMA is not listed in Device Manager, Device Type view
of the IDE channel that contains my cdrw & cd-rom. Nor, under View by
Resource are those devices listed. Although the DMA Controller is.

Clearly I am a novice on the subject and nothing may be wrong. However, It
strikes me odd that DMA is not listed as a resource when at least one of
these devices uses DMA. To finish the factual aspect of my setup, please be
aware that the devices spoken of are chained, the Samsung SM308-b
cdrw/dvd-rom as master and the LG-8484b cd-rom as slave. Windows has set up
these devices as: The master, multi-word dma mode 2; and the slave, pio
mode. I am also wonder if it is appriopriate to have mixed modes on the
same chain. I have independently verified that the Samsung device uses DMA
but, have not been able to find info on the LG device.

Assistance is appreciated, Thanks,
Ron G

If you have the Intel Application Accelerator, you'll need to check in the
IAA companion software that is installed with it. You can change your DMA
settings (or view them) from within there.
