Have been having problems with ie6, while in websites if i click on a link it
will not open in a new window only links in same window will open. Been on
Microsoft support pages and found the fault which is a faulty? dll file
checked out "regsvr32oleaut32.dll" which gives me an error code 0x80029c4a
also checked the registry keys and everything is correct so as the support
site said I re-installed ie6 but when it restarts my pc to complete the
installation i get this message "An error has occured while setting up
C:\windows\system\oleaut32.dll this error has been logged" Tried d/loading a
new oleaut32.dll file but it won't let me paste it into C:\windows|system as
the original dll file is in use by windows.
Anyone have any ideas I'm now using Mozilla as my browser but i am so used
to IE.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Hi Gordy62 :)

Go to Safe Mode and then try to rename the current oleaut32.dll file to
oleaut32.dllold, then reboot and replace the oleaut32.dll file. In Safe
Mode, you bypass Windows. Here's how to go to Safe Mode:

HOW TO Restart in Safe Mode

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan :)

Thanks for your reply .

Tried as you suggested but when i try to re-name the file in safe mode it
still
says it's being used by windows. I've tried shutting down everything and
trying but still the same.

Ok managed to change dll in IE6 set up and everything seemed fine
re-installed and no error messages, now when i click a link the new window
opens but the page won't load and i get the message "internet explorer was
unable to link to the web page you requested" I can also now get the windows
update download and installation window open but it doesn't do anything.

Hi Gordy62 :)

Sorry to be so long getting back, had to research OE problems on my 'puter.

'k.....it may be that somehow your connection or Winsock was damaged or
corrupted with all the goings on, so you might try the following and see if
it helps get your IE back up to speed.

Download, install and run a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, download, install and run a copy of WINSOCKXPFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
and
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at
http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
also
From LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-
http://digital-solutions.co.uk/lavasoft/whndnfix.zip
also ....
(NOTE: It is reported that in XP SP2, the command netsh winsock reset
will fix this problem without the need for these programs.)

or ........

Winsock Fix Utility
http://www.dfwonline.net/files/WinsockFix.zip

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them.

It's also possible there's some 3rd party program that might also be causing
the problem, so you should work through the following if the above does not
resolve the issue to be sure there's no sucmware on your system:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.
(or Spybot - Search and Destroy DSO Exploit Fix 1.3.1 TX)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4392.html
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Did you try
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
instead of
regsvr32oleaut32.dll
