Unable to Open New Windows in IE6

I know that there have been TONS of posts on this subject but none of
them have seemed to help me out any. The PC I have is running 98SE and
when I click on links that open new pages in IE6, it comes up blank
and stays that way. I have tried editing the registry keys suggested
in the MS KB article. No go there. I have tried using regvr32 with the
DLL's, urlmon.dll mshtml.dll, actxprxy.dll, oleaut32.dll, shell32.dll,
shdocvw.dll, and multiple others. I have uninstalled and reinstalled
IE6 twice. I tried the IEFix.exe file I found through a post on here.
I have basically done everything short of reinstalling Windows. The
strange thing is that I can't get ANY browser to open new windows. Not
firefox, not regular mozilla, not anything. I figured that would
denote a problem with the registry or possibly system files. If anyone
has any further suggestions I would be appreciative as always.

Hi,
It's possible that another program, toolbar, add-on, etc. is causing this.

[XP SP2] From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to
see if one of them is the culprit.
[Non SP2] Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third-party browser
extensions." If either of these helps, you still need to find the
troublesome program, BHO or add-on.

Toolbar Cop from http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Toolkit.htm can help identify
and remove add-ons, BHOs, etc.

Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers,
security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at
any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reconfigure,
reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

* Important... Turn on the Windows Firewall (from Control Panel or Security
Center) before disabling a third-party firewall.

Note: there are occasional reports that NWIZ.EXE (NVidea) has caused a
problem with the opening or handling of windows. If nwiz shows up as a
running process, try disabling it.

Hope this helps,
Don

Don,
Thanks for the info so far. I have tried all that. We don't have any
pop-up blockers in place. The only one we use is what comes native
with IE6. I have removed any toolbars that may have been on there. I
have a bunch of other PC's that run 98SE, I would say maybe 30 or so,
and they seem to be presently behaving. Any other thoughts or input?
Reinstalling the OS is really not an option, but it becomes the only
way, I might try to pitch it to my boss. Thanks again!

Hi,
If the only problem were blank windows in IE6, I'd advise that you try
replacing oleaut32.dll See: "If you get a blank page:" at
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm The fact that other browsers are
involved still suggests (to me) that a third-party program is involved. Try
disabling from msconfig> Startup unnecessary programs.

See if Toolbar Cop from http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Toolkit.htm finds any
browser add-ons or context menu items that you weren't aware of.

Try disabling context menu items for IE and Windows Explorer with
ShellExView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

Don,
I went ahead and replaced the Oleaut32.dll file and that solved the
problem! Thanks for all your help and suggestions!!
