DLL error

While attempting to restore a XP Pro
system on a Dell, (with the primary
partition empty), I get the following
error after re-installation has already
gathered all of the initial parameters
and attempts to start Windows;
(I'm using Dell's re-installation CD)

STOP: C0000221 unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Anyone know what's happening here?

Thanks,
Bill

I don't get the error referenced in my
oritinal note if I attempt to install a
Home Edition from a OEM Product
CD.

Dell OEM install CD's are BIOS locked. That said, it sounds as if your OEM
XP Pro CD is not for the Dell System (BIOS) you have on the PC.

I have no idea if that might be the case. What
would cause the BIOS to get changed? That
is, I didn't take any actions I'm aware of to
cause the BIOS to be changed.

What I did do was to install a 2nd hard-drive,
re-format the primary partition on the master
drive and then proceed to boot from the Dell
re-installation CD in an attempt to re-install
XP Pro.

Any further thoughts with this added information?

Thanks,
Bill
