.dll clean, registry clean & restore points

Is there any freeware out there for cleaning up .dll files on XP that can be
recommended as fairly idiot proof? Similarly registry cleaners? I believe
some used to be supported by MS but may not be anymore.

Also, is it safe to go back and clean out old system restore points to clear
up some memory? Can you set something in Windows to do this or limit the
amount of storage used?

My advice is not to use any such programs. They are more likely
to do harm than good.

points

Yes, it's safe. But you can't do it selectively. Your only
choices are to delete all or all but the most recent.

Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. Limit the
amount of space used on the System Restore tab.

God knows what you mean by cleaning the DLLs but if you want to clean your
registry then the only tried and tested product is Norton Utilities. It
can check entries in the Registry and it can check all the links to the
files on your hard disk. I would not touvh any Freeware software unless
it can run without "Installing" it on the system I simply don't like
installing any freeware and/or trial apllications. There is nothing
called FREE LUNCH in the UK!! You take a woman out but you expect her to
repay in kind!!

Creating system Restore Points does not affect your memory but it does
occupy unnecessay hard didk space. If your system is working properly and
you are not likely to go back to the previous stste then I don't see why
you need to keep these obsolete restore points. It only confuses
everybody and you waste a lot of time trying to experiment wit them. So
go ahead and clean tem up.

You also need to defrag your stystem to make it faster. How about
cleaning up all IE6 cache, temp files and logs?

Hope this gives you food for thought.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for
my work.
