Distribution Lists

Is it possible to create a distribution list based on a contact category? In
one instance, I have a category with 500 persons associated with it.
Manually adding each person to a new distribution list would take a far too
long, so I'm looking for a fast, easy, automatic way of approaching the
problem.

Sort by Category, Select the contacts, Actions-> New Message to contact

Tips of the month:
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data
-Creating a Permanent New Mail Desktop Alert in Outlook 2003

2 choices.

Probably the better option is to use your Category instead of a DL.
Categories are far more flexible and reliable and can be used just like you
would a DL. Use the By Category View of Contacts > Select the Category
Header > Actions > New Message to Contact

If for some reason you still want to create a DL, here is a workaround:
Change the Contacts Folder View to by Category. Right click and drag the
Category required to a newly created Contacts subfolder then choose Copy.
Make sure the new subfolder has been enabled as an email address book by
right clicking on it and choosing Properties > Outlook Address Book Tab >
and check the box to enable as email address book. Create your new
Distribution List, give it a name and make sure the Show Names drop down
field points to this new subfolder. Then shift select all the contacts and
add them to the DL.
