categorized contacts => e-mail

When you send out an email, and want to include all people of a certain
category in you contacts, how can you do this with out adding them all
individually?

Manually creating a distribution list seems too cumbersome since I am
talking about 100+ people for each category.

How do sending out a message and contact categories relate, in your mind?
Can you describe what you seek in more detail?

I think you answered one of my questions in with you other answer:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would you want to do that? With a category, you can send a message to
all addresses in that category by selecting it and choosing Actions>New
Message to Contact. No DL needed.

Thank you for that.
My other question really was if it was at all "possible" to easily move
categorized contacts to a DL. Since I was under the impression that you have
a "few more" options with DS than just with categories. I have recently
inherited a large outlook database organized via categories, have so far
however worked primarily with
DL and felt a little more comfortable there.
So there is no real "need," I guess, just my curiosity if it is at all
possible to migrate from a category to a DL

Not got that option here in Outlook 2007, unless I'm missing something....

One way it works is to define a category view of your contacts that contains
only the "File As" and "E-Mail" fields. With this view displayed, you can
select all the items in a category (using Ctrl-click to deselect any item in
the selection that doesn't have an email address), press Ctrl-C to copy the
selection, then click New>Distribution List>Select Members and paste
(Ctrl-V) the selection into the Members field. Clicking OK should then
create a DL with the members you want. Give it a name and click Save and
Close. I've tried this myself, so I know it works.
