Distribution List: Names covert to email addresses

I have created a DL entering in names and then their corresponding email
address. When I come back to the program to view my list, all the names have
converted to email addresses, which also still show in the email address
column. Why is this happening and how do I correct it and keep it from
happening in the future. It is important to me to have the names, last first,
alphabetized. Thank you.

Is this a distribution list you have made in access?

No. I created it the way the Help instructions said to: File, New,
Distribution List. I typed the contact's name and email. When I saved, or
updated, the names convert to email addresses.
