distorted photo images

My computer is a laptop, to new to be causing such
problems, however it is a Toshiba M30.,. with XP pre
installed
Photos up until recently could be easily downloaded from
my digital camera, a Ricoh Caplio RR30 and viewed on my
computer without problem.
I have tried system restore but this deletes my recently
installed access/ internet connections to my workplace.
However, the last two sets of photos are distorted, that
is subjects are either lengthened or widened.
Have checked pixels and these are correct. have tried to
view photos via photoshop, my pictures and paint -results
all the same, all photos are distorted in manner already
described. Have tried to view photos from a rom from an
earlier time and these too are distorted.
Photos stored on the computer which previously viewed
well are now distorted.
Toshiba suggests this is a microsoft problem. Microsoft
says they have never experienced this issue, suggesting
only that it is a file within a file that is being
modified.
Please can you offer assistance or recommendations as to
how I should approach this problem.
thank you,
Jan Murray.

This is a problem with the driver of your graphic card display. If you have
a Toshiba, your graphic card is probably nVidia GeForce. You can go to the
nVidia site or the Toshiba site and download the latest driver file in one
of your folder, or better yet make a new folder, call it Graphic driver and
download the driver file there. You will need to get to this folder to
install the new driver.
Installing a new graphic card driver is a bit unnerving if you never did
this before.
First, download the driver file in the folder.
Second, you must disable your antivirus software.
Third you have to go to Control panel/Add Remove software and uninstall the
current nVidia software.
Fourth, you have to close the computer and reboot.
When you reboot, you no longer have the nVidia graphic card driver, all you
have is a generic video card display and the screen will look very different
than what you are accustomed to see! No problem. Navigate to the folder
where you saved the new driver file and double click on the file to install
it. Then you will see your normal screen again.
Before doing this, I would go back to Toshiba and ask again and see if they
think updating your graphic card driver is a possible solution to the
problem.
