Display Tabs Missing

I am running XP Pro and when I activate the display from
control panels the tabs across the top are missing. If I
change profiles to Windows XP and click the apply button
they reappear and remain even when changing back to the
custom profile. Anyone know how I can have the tabs appear
when first opening the display from control panel? Thank
