Display Properties - Desktop

I am not able to select pictures, nor browse on this tab. I had a problem
with spyware, malware. Used spyware doctor to fix that problem. Also ran
Viruscan which found nothing.

I tried http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_w.htm
and http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 142: Allow
wallpaper/background changes.

I still am unable to get anything but the color button to work on the
desktop tab. The customize desktop button works, and have tried what others
have suggested there. but to no effect.

At startup I can see my old desktop picture there, but then as it continues
to load, I get the color choice off the desktop tab.

I have done what you suggested. Followed the link about the missing options.
Still no improvement. I continue to have the display Properties - Desktop
tag show, but am unable to highlight the pics on the left, nor browse. Only
the color button and the customize desktop are able to be clicked on. I also
went into the customized desktop and did what you suggested, nothing is
checked and such. What now?

Ok, some progress. I no longer have just a solid color to the desktop. Ran
all of the stuff you had listed, took some time, but they did find more
malware on the system. After running, and doing the disk clean up / defrag
ran the sfc/ scannow which updated. Then into regedit and checked those
items.

Old background is now visible, but the tab Desktop still does not allow to
browse for background picture or chose fromt he list on the left. Any Ideas
now?

And Thanks for all the help!!!
