Display Problems

Hi All,

Don't even know if I'm in the right group here, but here goes...

I bought a new system (Advent 3312 from PC World - U.K. - OK, OK!) with XP
Home. I installed XP Pro pretty much instantly to have access to IIS, so
I'm not
sure whether my problem originates pre- or post-XP Pro installation. The
full spec:

CPU Intel® Pentium® 4 2.66 GHz
Motherboard MSI MS-6703
Memory 512 MB DDR RAM - PC2100
Hard Drive 80 GB Samsung SV8004H
CD / DVD Drive 16 X JLMS 166S DVD ROM
CD / DVD Drive 48x12x48 Liteon LTR-48125S CDR/W
Floppy Drive Floppy disk drive
Video / Graphics Card MSI MS-8890 GeForce 4T 64 MB (TV-out)Nvidia
GeForce4 MX 440 SE with AGP8X
Sound Card Avance AC'97
Speakers Advent stereo powered speakers
Modem ConexantT 56K PCI WinModem
Network Card SiS 900 integrated fast ethernet
Ports Advent 3312 / 3412 port information
Disassembly Fiat 2 chassis
Keyboard Advent multimedia keyboard
Mouse Advent optical mouse

More details here:

(watch the wrap in the link)

Basically, the system came with a 'free' upgrade to a TFT monitor (Advent
'15T'), and I believe that is where the problem lies. The display is
useless - it 'ripples' as I scroll.

Form Control Panel/Appearance and Themes/Diplay/Settings/Advanced, the
Adapter tab lists nothing (all info = <unavailable>). Properties on the
adapter tab, tells me it is VgaSave - DeviceType: non Plug n Play drivers.
The monitor tab lists my monitor as 'default monitor', with no options to
change anything. The screen refresh rate is listed as 'Use hardware default
setting' which I gather is 100 Hertz.

Ive installed SP1 for XP and numerous other updates/patches. I have DirectX
9.0a (just about to go to 9.0b). Under the display tab, the diagnsotic tool
for DirectX tells me "The system is using the generic video driver. Please
install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer". I have the
latest (correct) drivers from NVidea, which were installed and uninstalled
correctly, (twice). Needless to say, device manager doesn't list my
display.

I can't seem to choose a start-up mode for resolving any problems either:
neither F8 nor Ctrl have any effect when booting up. Though my immediate
concern is the display problem, it'd be nice to resolve this too!

TIA for your help

I have a VisionTek AGP card with an ATI chipset. I found
out that I need to download the drivers from ATI and not
VisionTek. You may have already done this but if not? try
going directly to the chipset website and download their
drivers for the card. After that find the monitor
manufacturer's website and download the driver for your
monitor. Usually flat screen LCD monitors refresh rates
aren't that high.
