After using an old windows 95 game on my XP (even though it worked fine, and
i checked the button to make it compatible etc) after closing it down I'm
having weird display problems.
1. when i right click all the options in the menu look like they're double
printed
2. Microsoft word looks really old school! Instead of white round the page
it is dark black and all the buttons on the menu are badly shaded and
outlined.

any ideas what else i can do? my computer wont restore to the point before i
used the game..

What probably happened is that the game changed the video resolution
and/or the attributes such as bit depth (8, 16, 24, 32). A load of
games back then did that without telling you.

Try right-clicking on your desktop and select Properties. Go to the
Settings tab and see to what the adapter is currently set. Adjust
Screen Resolution and Color Quality as needed. The Advanced button may
provide further adjustments to be made.

In that case, the game may have installed drivers over the top of yours.
Since your Operating System thinks it has drivers, it won't change
them. You might try going into the Device Manager and try both
"rollback driver" and "update driver". Failing that, remove the device
from your system (using Device Manager - not physically) and reboot -
the OS will find the device and install drivers for it again - maybe
fresh this time.
