Display of users in AD doesn't change

When I change a user's display name in AD Users (last name, first name,
whatever) it doesn't change in the user list.

Not sure what you mean. I changed the last name of a girl that was just
married, but her full name in the user listing didn't change to the new last
name.

There were also a few people that didn't have their last names entered so I
put it in. The user listing still shows only their first name.

This isn't isolated to this particular AD. I've seen this behavior in every
AD I've ever seen.
 
I know, it was that I tried to explain, the resolution is to right click the
object and use the "rename" item
