Diskette drive - Cannot refresh directory listing

K

Ken Heart

Situation: Brand new PC running XP Home. Fully updated.
When a 3½ floppy disk is inserted and read for the first
time, the contents are correctly displayed by double-
clicking on 3½ Floppy (A:) in My Computer.
However if the diskette is subsequently removed and a
different one inserted, double-clicking on A drive
displays the contents of the previous diskette! F5 does
not refresh the directory listing either.
Afterwards, even if there is no diskette in the drive,
double-clicking on 3½ Floppy (A:) in My Computer brings up
the directory listing of the first diskette.
The only way to read a second diskette is by restarting
the PC!
Please help - Mail to (e-mail address removed)

Sounds like a bent pin on the drive cabling (or missed.) Used to happen all
the time.

Take apart the computer, unhook the ribbon cable from the floppy drive,
check the places it plugs in (both ends) for bent pins.. Plug it back in
securely.

Ken,
Did you find a solution to this problem? I am having the
exact same problem right now at home.
