Disk Management takes forever...

When I try to go into disk mgt I can hear what sounds like the disk
spinning up (I've been using system for some time, not just starting) and
it takes several minutes before disk mgt comes back with data.

Is this normal?

No. Sounds like the disk is going bad. Are there any disk-related
entries in Event Viewer?
